Dame Judi Dench, vice president of the British Lung Foundation, helped raise almost £20,000 for the charity at a luxury car boot sale held at Jack Barclay’s Mayfair showroom last week (November 14). The Oscar-winning actress, who lost her husband to lung cancer, was the guest of honour at the event held in Mayfair’s Jack Barclay showroom.
Several iconic Bentley cars had their boots brimming with exclusive items from a Cartier clock and Wight & Teague jewellery to Dubarry luggage.
“We’d like to thank all those who donated so generously in order to help us improve the lives of people with lung disease,” says British Lung Foundation trustee Amanda Sater, who chaired the event. “The event was a great success which would not have been possible without the kind support of Dame Judi and Jack Barclay, who let us use their impressive showroom free of charge.”
Dame Judi successfully bid for a photograph of the late Steve McQueen who suffered from mesothelioma, an asbestos-related lung cancer. The photo was the last his wife Barbara took of him before he died.
Other items up for auction included a tennis racket signed by Tim Henman, a football autographed by the Liverpool FC team and a 5-star luxury holiday.
